Using your rigid object (positive), make a one or two part mould (negative).

After you have the mould >> Optional: Use a material of your choice (candy, chocolate,, rice, pulp, resin etc.) and cast two replicas of your original rigid object.

Intention:

Because I failed in coming up with an unusual material to make a mold, I turned to the silicone provided at D12 lab. Since I didn't have any experience working with silicone, thought there must be something new to learn and experiment with.

Poured the silicone to the container for mixing.

This kind of molding silicone(OOMOO 30) only needs 6 hrs to cure, so it gets hard really quick. While stirring it, I felt it was much stickier than I thought.

Poured the well mixed silicone to the container for molding.

The positive needs to be sticked to the container if it doesn't have a flat bottom, otherwise it may float away when pouring silicone. ⬅️ I missed this step.

Took the positive out of the mold.

It was a mess here! This process really needs skills and a lot of patience, and here are some problems I have:

  1. There were a few space and gaps at the center of my clay sculpture, so after it was submerged by the silicone, those space was all filled with silicone, which made it really difficult to cut the mold properly and take the positive out without ruining the mold or destroy the positive.
