3D printing the cast.mp4

This week I wanted to experiment with several types of designs in order to later decide which one makes sense to be moulded.

My first inclination was the planter pot and casting in chocolate just like the french chocolatier chefs create beautiful designs with chocolate. What is we can create such a mold that will make our life easier. Turns out, to cast this mold it takes a division of 3 parts and perhaps using wax which could be then melted.

Hence, I decided to work with the 3rd mold which is the digital hearts, which is more straightforward.

Responses to the assignment prompt

I believe 3D printing using a machine as opposed to hand carving or moulding could be more accurate. However, it doesn’t have the human finish. Human touch and everything that’s hand crafted has a remarkable finishing that gives it value. You see the effort put in a piece that’s not manufactured by a machine. Manpower and labour cannot and will not be replaced by machines for all crafts and production. Selectively we would need to use machines and replace manpower for certain mass produced crafts or objects.

When it comes to moulding, it is quite the same using machine created mounds, which could be more accurate and with less errors if done right. As for hand created moulds, it is more personalized and could be done for less quantities. Hence, when it comes to mass production it’s easier to use machine moulding.

I 3D printed 3 designs for this week.
